This is a series about a man who doesn’t fit into society, who finds his own way of surviving. At times homeless, other times relying on his sister and friends, he navigates his damaged soul with a moral compass while wrestling with memories of his abusive father.
Chattercbox
Film about a night at an open mic event. Revolving around a set of characters
The Last Harbor
I imagine this as a film. So far it is just a title. I see the film being shot at the Watergate Marina in Crosby Park in St Paul, the last harbor (northernmost) on the navigable Mississippi River.
The story is about a man in his retirement years contemplating limited time. His boat in the harbor is symbolic of the possibility of sailing away from it all. The slip represents his unwillingness to let go of the perception of self that is tied to his past. On the dock is a patio set where different groups get together to exchange opinions and laughter, including other boat owners, guests, and his friends and family who come by for excursions on the boat. The topics range from incoherent communal alcoholism to personal crisis.
Harbor at the End of the World.
Harbor at the End of the World is a variety show presenting work that entertains ideas about survival in the world as an artist.
THEMES:
-
The Winds Eye View of the World
The world as seen from a camera moving through the real space, at the speed of the wind. These videos could be a drone flying through a landscape, or the camera moving through the landscape by hand or gimbal. When I think of the wind as a personality, I believe the wind must be a poet. It is essential that short films for this category be poetic interpretations of the real environment.
-
The Door to Nowhere
A physical door on set that is opened at times to find out what is on the other side. The short films portray stories about the real world in a way that leads nowhere. Each of the films suggests there are not simple answers to our interpretation of the world.
-
Wooden Boats
The hosts talk about a series of boats on film. Boats could be in the shop being worked, sitting in the harbor or underway on the river. They could be coming to take us away.
-
Riparian Adventures
Short films set in the environment by the river. The stories can be documentary or narrative and about riparian adventures.
